The suspect in the attack on Kateryna Gandziuk was detained until September 11


The attackers sold goods and services on the Internet that did not exist, as well as organized the activities of call centers that extorted data from bank cards of citizens. The damage is more than 4 million hryvnias.

Cyberpolice officers together with the investigative units of the National Police, under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor’s office, exposed 49 people involved in fraud. The revelation took place during operational and preventive measures aimed at detecting illegal call centers and online fraudsters.

In almost all regions of Ukraine, the cyberpolice identified people who posted information on the sale of non-existent goods and services on social networks and on websites. The attackers «sold» clothes, shoes, household appliances, furniture, animals, etc. Police also found fictitious offers for renting housing and wood processing services.

Similar crimes were uncovered in Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv and Cherkasy oblasts. There, the offenders created their own websites for their machinations and demanded full prepayment for goods and services. After receiving the money, the fraudsters disappeared.

Also in Odesa, Zaporizhia and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts, police exposed the illegal activities of call centers.

The offenders called the victims, introduced themselves as employees of the bank security service and extorted information about bank card details. In Ivano-Frankivsk region, a man pretended to be a police officer and demanded money from people for failing to prosecute their relatives who allegedly committed the crime.

In addition, in Zakarpattia and Kharkiv oblasts, cyber police officers exposed individuals who illegally issued online loans to citizens.

In Kyiv, Volyn and Vinnytsia regions, the cyberpolice stopped the activities of illegal organizations that misappropriated investors’ money under the guise of investing in profitable projects.

It was previously established that about 500 people were injured by the attackers. The amount of damages exceeds 4 million hryvnias. Some of the losses have already been reimbursed.

In total, law enforcement officers conducted 107 searches. Mobile phones, computers, bank cards, draft records and other physical evidence were seized during the investigation.

So far, 49 people have been identified as involved in these online scams. Of this number, 30 suspects have already been declared suspects. Ten malefactors were detained according to Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

According to these facts, criminal proceedings were instituted under Art. 190 (Fraud) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The investigation is ongoing.
