A juvenile who was accused of committing a criminal offense under Part 1 of Art. 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (robbery), was released from criminal liability after passing the resocialization program.
In May 2019, a 16-year-old boy went to a clothing store and, believing that no one was watching him, secretly tried to take out a pair of sneakers. When he tried to pass the signal frame, they worked, so the actions of the minor were exposed by store employees.
V. o. Oleksandr Ilyenkov, the head of the Kharkiv local prosecutor’s office, said that the teenager accused of robbery had fully admitted his guilt and repented. At the initiative of the local prosecutor’s office to implement a joint order of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine and the General Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine, the teenager took part in the pilot project «Recovery Program for Juveniles Suspected of Crime.»
The Regional Center for Free Secondary Legal Aid in Luhansk and Kharkiv oblasts provided information on the successful completion of this Program by a teenager. The minor underwent a course of psychological counseling and correctional assistance from a psychologist, as well as participated in activities aimed at resocialization in society, proposed by the public organization «Blagovest 2013». The victim was voluntarily compensated for the damage caused.
The Kominternivsky District Court of Kharkiv took into account the above circumstances and considered that the juvenile had ceased to be socially dangerous and would not commit criminally punishable acts in the future.
Taking into account the consent of all participants of the Program to release the boy from criminal liability, the court made a decision and closed the criminal proceedings.
