Police took into custody an intruder who gave a false report of a market mine in Lviv

It became possible to quickly identify and detain the perpetrator, a 34-year-old Lviv resident, thanks to the joint and coordinated work of the criminal investigation officers of the Sykhiv Police Department and other police units of the Lviv Region.

As previously reported, on July 16, at about 5.30, operational line 102 received a report of a mine in one of Lviv’s markets located on Khutorivka Street.

Explosives experts, cynologists, an investigative task force of the Sykhiv Police Department, as well as employees of other services and police departments of the Lviv Region worked at the scene. Law enforcement officers inspected the territory and premises of the market, evacuated about five hundred people — workers and visitors. No explosive or suspicious objects were found.

In fact, investigators of the Sykhiv Police Department opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 259 (Known false report of a threat to public safety, destruction or damage to property) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment — imprisonment for a term of two to six years.

The measures taken promptly identified the perpetrator, a 34-year-old Lviv resident who had given a false report of a mine. The court chose a measure of restraint for him — detention.
