The Day of Ukrainian Peacekeepers was established by a resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of May 21, 2013. On this day in 1992, the mission in Bosnia began the participation of the Ukrainian military in peacekeeping and security operations, which are conducted in the «hot spots» of the planet under the auspices of the UN, OSCE, NATO and the EU.

Over the years, more than 45,000 Ukrainian servicemen have taken part in international peacekeeping operations in various regions of the world — Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Angola, Macedonia, Guatemala, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Croatia, Kuwait, Sierra Leone, Transnistria, Iran. , Ethiopia, Eritrea, Georgia, Sudan, Ivory Coast, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, etc.

Despite the continuation of hostilities in the east of our country, Ukraine continues to adhere to its international obligations to participate in UN peacekeeping operations.

Currently, the Armed Forces of Ukraine participate in 8 international peacekeeping and security operations in 6 countries and the Abyei region.
