There are more than 7,000 settlements in Ukraine where mobile communication is not 4G or even 3G, but this problem must be solved in the coming years.
About it on air TV channel «HOME«Said the head of the mobile Internet development department of the Ministry of Digital Transformation Stanislav Pribytko, Ukrinform reports.
According to him, the problem is that in Ukraine there are many villages where 20, 30, 50, 100 people live, so mobile operators do not have time to cover all settlements. But over the next two to three years, residents of even remote villages should receive fourth-generation mobile communications.
«This spring, new licenses were issued for mobile operators to cover almost 90% of the country’s population, at least 90%. It will include cities with a population of 2,000 people, and even 500 people. Therefore, within 4 years, the numerical gap that exists now should be significantly reduced, ”Pribytko said.
According to him, while in Ukraine there is a digital divide between large cities and small settlements. He explained that previous licenses to use radio frequencies by mobile operators had been issued to cover the largest cities and the largest villages. And the fewer residents in the village, the less profitable it is for operators and the later mobile communication comes to them.
The representative of the Ministry of Finance explained that the 4G project in the 900 MHz band allows to cover small settlements as well. Its implementation started on July 1 and began in the western regions, because there is mountainous terrain and the most difficult to carry out re-equipment.
“Then it passes through the center of the country and ends in the south and east. Luhansk and Donetsk regions should start receiving fourth-generation mobile communications in December this year. It will not be for one time, not for a week, it is still a long process, when mobile operators connect city after city, village after village. Where it is possible to do it safely, mobile operators will start in December, «Pribytko said.
