As Ukrinform reported, US President Donald Trump nominated Keith Dayton for the post of US Ambassador to Ukraine in early May 2020. The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba welcomed this decision.
To be officially appointed US ambassador to another country, the nominee must go through a Senate approval process.
Dayton, 71, has been the director of the George Marshall Center in Garmisch, Germany, since 2010 and is currently serving as a senior U.S. defense adviser for Ukraine. He took up this position after his discharge from the US Army as a lieutenant general.
From December 2005 to October 2010, Dayton served as Security Coordinator for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. He was also Director of Strategy, Planning and Policy for the US Army Headquarters, Director of Operations for the Pentagon Intelligence Agency, and Defense Attaché at the US Embassy in Russia. Kate Dayton has received numerous awards for military service, including from the State Department, as well as the governments of Canada, Germany and Austria. He speaks German and Russian.
