The mayor of Odessa, along with divers, examined the sunken part of the ship and the area around it.
On November 22, 2019, during a storm in the waters of the Black Sea, the Delfi tanker, flying the Moldova flag, ran aground on the Dolphin beach in Odessa and turned over.
Constant control over the situation was carried out by the city authorities of Odessa, headed by the mayor of the city, Gennady Trukhanov. Immediately after the crash, Odessa divers rushed to the aid of the crew and rescued three sailors. For security reasons, city services fenced the beach.
Odessa was held hostage to this situation and suffered serious damage: during the wreck, the tanker broke and actually destroyed the hydraulic structures.
On July 11, the mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, together with divers, examined the sunken part of the ship and the area around it.
“The breakwater in the area of the ship’s wreck is completely destroyed. This is a hydraulic structure that needs to be restored. Presumably, it will come out at a cost no cheaper than raising a ship! After the specialists familiarize themselves with the video that we will provide them, we will file appropriate claims for compensation for material damage, ”said Gennady Trukhanov.
As of today, the tanker is in the water.
“A logical question is why this has not been done before? But this is a question for other people. Those plans that were announced to us are quite optimistic: the tanker will be removed by the end of the month, up to August 10, ”said the mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov.
Recall that after the collapse of the tanker, the Odessa City Hall took operational measures to preserve the environment. So, the vessel was not allowed to be cut, and later ecologists worked with Delfi, saving the sea and land from the leakage of oil products and its consequences.
According to the mayor of Odessa, today the situation is under control and all measures have been taken to preserve the ecosystem of the Black Sea. Further actions depend on the shipowner who has already begun preparing the ship for evacuation.
