According to Chemodanova, the tragedy occurred at about 3:20 a.m. on August 16.
«On Partizansky Avenue, a Renault driver hit a 19-year-old pedestrian, who, according to preliminary information, was on the roadway,» said a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The injuries received as a result of the accident turned out to be incompatible with the boy’s life — he died on the spot.
Chemodanova claims that the young man «was a participant in mass events taking place in Minsk in recent days.»
Yesterday, Belarusian human rights activists of the Zvyano public association reported at least five deaths during protests in Belarus. At the same time, according to the authorities, only one person died.
As Ukrinform reported, the presidential election took place in Belarus on August 9. On August 14, the CEC announced the final results, according to which incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko, who has been in office since 1994, received 80.1% of the vote, while opposition candidate Svitlana Tikhanovska received 10.1%.
Immediately after the elections in Belarus, speeches began by citizens who did not agree with their official results. Security forces brutally dispersed the protesters, using rubber bullets, light-noise grenades and water cannons.
More than 6.7 thousand people have been detained since the beginning of the protests. At least 250 people were hospitalized, with several reported deaths.
