Forest fires in Luhansk region were finally eliminated

The chairman of the Luhansk regional state administration Sergey Gaidai declared it, reports press service of the regional state administration.

«As of 5:20 p.m., the fire on the territory of Severodonetsk and Novoaidar forestries in Luhansk region has been finally extinguished. There are no foci and no threat of ignition, «Gaidai said.

It is noted that he went to Kyiv to resolve issues related to compensation for losses of victims and relatives of the dead.

As Ukrinform reported, on July 6 near the village of Oskolonivka, Novoaidar district, Luhansk region, a forest fire broke out on the territory of Borovsky and Okhtyrsky forestries on an area of ​​about 50 hectares. On the morning of July 7, the fire was contained, but due to the gusty wind and high air temperature, the fire spread to the village of Smolyaninovo, Novoaidar district.

The death of 5 people was confirmed as a result of the fire.

The police opened a criminal case under Article 270 (violation of fire safety requirements established by law) of the Criminal Code.

According to the regional state administration, 76 houses damaged by the fire have been registered, none of which is insured. The fire damaged residential houses and outbuildings in 41 households, destroyed 35 houses in the village. Smolyanins. 15 houses of the horticultural society № 5 “Lake Vovche” of Novoaidar district were damaged and 49 were completely destroyed.

223 people were injured, of which 109 people suffered material damage, 114 people (including 17 children) sought emergency medical care, hospitals in Severodonetsk and Novoaydar with injuries.

The estimated amount of damage caused only by the loss of forest stands exceeds UAH 450 million.
