As Ukrinform reports, this was stated by Health Minister Maxim Stepanov at a meeting on the activities and financing of war veterans’ hospitals on August 4, according to the Ministry of Health in .
«Our common goal is to maintain a capable network of war veterans’ hospitals, preserve human resources, develop material and technical base, and introduce modern medical technologies, which will provide our defenders with affordable and high-quality medical services,» Stepanov said.
He noted that in total in Ukraine there are 30 hospitals for war veterans, which employ more than 1,200 doctors and almost 3,000 paramedics. According to him, due to the miscalculations of the previous leadership of the Ministry of Health and the start of the second stage of medical reform on April 1, the funding deficit of these institutions is about 271 million UAH.
Stepanov added that every year the network of hospitals provides comprehensive medical, physical and psychological assistance to about 130,000 war veterans, of whom more than 25,000 are members of the anti-terrorist operation.
As Ukrinform reported, the second stage of medical reform, which started on April 1, stipulates that health care facilities that provide specialized and highly specialized medical care will receive funds under a contract with the National Health Insurance Fund.
At the same time, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he could not allow the second stage of the medical reform in its current form, as the new funding mechanism could lay off about 50,000 doctors and close more than 300 hospitals.
