Lomachenko’s opponent will be determined by a mini-tournament.
The World Boxing Organization (WBO) intends to hold a mini-tournament in the lightweight division to determine the contender for the reigning Ukrainian champion Vasily Lomachenko.
This was announced by WBO President Paco Valcarcel, informs Klitschko-brothers.com.
«In connection with Ryan Garcia’s decision to focus on the fight with Luke Campbell, the WBO is considering holding two lightweight elimination fights this year to determine the mandatory contender. A similar process to determine the champion has been announced in the light heavyweight division, «said the head of the organization.
Earlier it became known that the teams of Emmanuel Tagoe from Ghana (№3 in the WBO rankings) and Ukrainian Denis Berinchik (№4) began negotiations on the fight. Meanwhile, other fighters in the TOP-6 of the best lightweights according to the WBO — American Ryan Garcia, British Lee Selby, Australian George Cambosos and Jorge Linares from Venezuela — already have planned fights.
