A man who took his ex-wife and children hostage was detained in the Frankivsk region

«After two hours of talks with law enforcement officers, the attacker agreed to release the woman and one child. It was at this moment that he was detained by police. The woman and children were not injured, now they are safe. The man faces up to five years in prison, ”the statement reads.
The police noted that on August 17, at about 3 pm, Kaluga police received a report that in Voinyliv, a man had taken his ex-wife and two children hostage and threatened them with physical violence.
It was previously established that the 29-year-old man first took his two children home from relatives, and when the 30-year-old ex-wife found out about it, she reported it to the police. The woman, without waiting for the arrival of law enforcement officers, went to the ex-husband’s apartment to pick up the children aged seven and nine.
There was a conflict between the adults and the man closed the house and threatened the woman with physical violence.
Law enforcement officers immediately went to the scene, and the head of the GUNP in the region launched a police operation. As a result, the hostages were released, the attacker was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The issue of notifying him of the suspicion and choosing a measure of restraint in the form of detention is currently being resolved.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted under Part 2 of Art. 146 (Unlawful deprivation of liberty or kidnapping) of the Criminal Code.
Law enforcement officers are finding out the circumstances and details of the incident. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
